ABSTRACT:
Smart Cities are in general perceived to be high technology urban areas. They have been
defined by many entities depending upon business these entities are into.
Energy conservation has become a hot topic at the present time as the rate of energy
consumption is continuously increasing. The energy sources are depleting at a very fast rate
and soon there is going to be shortage of energy sources.
The smart cities need to incorporate the concept of energy conservation. The smart cities
need to adapt some of the systems managing and controlling the energy consumption. People
can contribute to the environment by conserving energy.
The concept of smart cities varies from country to country and depends on the level of
development. Principle of urban planning evolves over centuries. While planning for smart
cities in India, culture and traditions needs to be guiding principles. Greater importance
should be given to social culture rather than technology.
Our research paper highlights the need to achieve a balance between the conventional way of
developing smart cities using modern technology by preserving cultural and economic
identities of North-east India.
Empirical evidences suggest that selective and well-designed public policies and good
governance can influence the development process in an astonishingly positive manner.
Assimilation and accommodative policies can strengthen social integrity of North-east
region. Our research paper will explore North-east India‟s struggle towards achieving
sustainable socio-economic development.
